This blog is a portfolio of works that explore the sadistic nature and history of medical intervention. The work seen describes the accounts of the obsolete apparatus and the discomfort of past notions of cure and prevention.

Artist Statement

Extracted from medical archives my images record the primitive nature of the not so distant past. These appropriated engraved images are inserted onto color fields that isolate them from each other and remove them from their original context. The antiquity that is represented in both image and idea is transformed into a modern space by color and the use of the computer as facilitator. Image and color field are joined by text. I use phrases that are mocking tributes to the sales pitch that might have originally accompanied the device. The juxtaposition of advertising language and the physical restraint represented by the medical information is at once scathing, lustful, and enticing.
